WEEK 3
DEDICATED TO THE GAME - OUTSIDE OF TRAINinG
Success in basketball isn’t just built during training sessions—it’s forged in the extra hours spent outside of structured practices. The best athletes don’t just rely on team sessions; they take responsibility for their own development by putting in extra work on their own time.
Why Practicing Outside of the Academy Matters?
Reinforces Skills – Repetition is key. The more you practice a skill, the more natural it becomes in a game setting.
Builds Confidence – Extra work sharpens your skills, giving you the confidence to perform under pressure.
Sets You Apart – The players who commit to individual growth are the ones who stand out when it matters.
Develops Self-Discipline – Practicing on your own teaches accountability, resilience, and a strong work ethic.
CHALLENGE YOURSELF
Extra Hour, Extra Edge
Challenge yourself to dedicate at least one extra hour outside of training to work on a key area of your game. Whether it’s shooting, dribbling, footwork, or conditioning, track your progress and reflect on how it impacts your performance.
BALLER OF THE WEEK!
BALLER OF THE WEEK!
Congratulations
Lexi t
Player shoutout for the week from Coach Maryn goes to Lexi T! This is Lexi’s second term at HD and since she has started she has taken huge leaps. Lexi has spent time outside of HD sessions, practicing the skills we have taught her and boy it shows! Especially her shooting! Keep working hard Lexi, we see you!
REBOUNDING
SKILL OF THE WEEK -
Rebounding comes down to effort! Boxing out doesn’t always show up in the stats, but it makes a huge impact—sometimes it’s not you grabbing the board, but your teammate because you did the work. When the whole squad commits to boxing out, that’s how you stack up wins!
Some rebounding tips from the video clips:
Reverse pivot after rebound. After securing rebound it’s important to scan the floor to see if we have an open teammate ahead of if we are open to dribble.
Chasing the ball after you box out. We have to be aggressive not only with our box out but chasing the ball after the shot goes up.
