BASKETBALL BEYOND THE GAME

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Hoop Dreams Academy programs are designed to support children and young people who experience barriers to participating in organised sport. Eligibility may include one or more of the following:
The child and/or family:
Hold a current Low Income Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card, or equivalent concession
Are experiencing financial hardship or economic insecurity
Are at risk of housing instability, including temporary, transitional, or government-supported housing
Face geographic isolation, including living in regional, rural, or remote areas with limited access to sporting facilities
Have a physical, intellectual, or psychosocial disability that limits access to mainstream sporting opportunities
Experience social exclusion, cultural barriers, or reduced access to community programs
The child:
Is aged between 5 and 18 years
Has a genuine interest in basketball and a willingness to participate
Has the capacity to engage in a team-based sport, with reasonable adjustments where required
The family or carer:
Has a parent or carer who supports the child’s participation in sport
Is willing to encourage regular attendance and commitment, recognising that flexibility and support may be provided where needed
Eligibility is assessed holistically, recognising that disadvantage can present in different ways. Meeting all criteria is not required to be considered for support.
